Alyssa is a master’s student at the University of Alberta supervised by Dr. Suzanne Tank. Her current work is focused on looking at the impacts of permafrost thaw slumping on organic carbon (OC) and nutrient cycling within the Willow River catchment west of Aklavik, NT. Her goal is to better understand how the materials from thaw slumping are changing OC and nutrient composition as they are propagated downstream and how their bioavailability may change with deposition.

After the completion of her master’s, she would like to continue working in the North on freshwater systems. By participating as a trainee in the NSERC CREATE LEAP program she not only hopes to grow her knowledge about permafrost from a multi-disciplinary perspective, but also to strengthen connections with other northern colleagues.
