My research focuses on the relationship between lake characteristics (water chemistry, stratification) and the mappable land systems they are found in within permafrost-affected regions; since lake characteristics can be predicted by their surrounding landscapes, they may be classified, mapped and inventoried to better inform local management decisions. During the course of my master’s degree, I will be instrumenting and sampling lakes from a wide variety of landscapes within the Northwest Territories, then developing a mapping workflow based on remote sensing data and existing datasets (e.g. surficial geology) to classify unsampled lakes.
