Gabrielle is a Master’s student at the University of Alberta, working with Dr. Suzanne Tank. Her research focuses on acid rock drainage features in the Peel Plateau region of Canada’s Northwest Territories. Specifically, she is interested in the recent appearance of acidic groundwater seeps in this region and their connection to permafrost thaw and sulfide mineral oxidation. Through this work she aims to understand the causes, consequences, and future trajectories of acidic groundwater seeps in the Peel Plateau.

As an NSERC CREATE LEAP trainee Gabrielle hopes to gain a greater understanding of permafrost landscapes from an interdisciplinary perspective and to learn more about the complex issues facing northern communities.
