I research the impact of permafrost degradation on building infrastructure foundations through community-based monitoring of thaw settlement. By partnering with northern communities, we monitor the ground temperatures and foundation performance using a combination of field instrumentation and local observations. My work integrates historical building data and field observations with numerical modeling to quantify how thawing ground affects the structural serviceability.

As part of the NSERC CREATE LEAP program, I utilize the multidisciplinary approach to help bridge the gap between traditional local practices and engineering design while considering the evolving challenges of climate change. Ultimately, my research aims to develop resilient yet practical engineering solutions that respect the unique environmental and cultural context of the North.
