I was born and raised in the NWT and am a member of the Northwest Territory Metis Nation. As a resident of the Territories, we live in a constantly changing environment; between the post-glacial landscape features and increasing effects of anthropogenic climate change, it can be difficult to predict the changes that will occur on our landscape. Understanding permafrost is a key element in the wider picture of climate change in the north, and will allow us to make informed decisions relating to land use as well as infrastructure planning. Aside from the above, my own post secondary education was focused on Anthropology, and there are innumerable benefits to knowledge of permafrost and its mechanics for the anthropological and archaeological disciplines as practiced in the Northwest Territories.
